I.S.T.D MODERN THEATRE DANCE
Modern Theatre dance has its foundation in Ballet, and uses many of the same movements you would find in a Ballet class. Modern is popular with all ages and is often danced to pop music.
The movements are expansive, dynamic and most of all, fun! Children can start Modern from 4 years of age with the Primary syllabus. Classes follow the ISTD graded syllabus after this, and as with Ballet, move onto the Vocational grades for the more serious students.
Also contained within the Modern syllabus are ‘Jazz Awards’. These short exams are much more geared towards performance rather than perfect technique, and therefore classes are fun-filled and energetic!
These exams have to be taken in order - starting with Bronze, usually taken around ages 12-14, then Silver, and finally Gold.
